Today we are going to present the best DIY flea spray recipes for dogs and the ones that are the safest, work best and at the same time, they are easy to make. Millions of dog owners all around the world have been using these recipes for a long time, so you can deduce that they are effective. If you want to make one, follow the directions below, and you will have your homemade spray against fleas within minutes.

DIY Flea Spray Recipes for Dogs: 3 Options That Work Best

Apple Cider Vinegar Recipe

This is the first of DIY flea spray recipes for dogs and the one you will want to try. All you have to do is mix water and apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle (50:50). Spray on your dog, and you are done. You don’t have to spray it all the time. Once every 2-3 days will be sufficient.

The recipe is 100% safe. Some dog owners will even add apple cider vinegar to the water bowl of their dogs. This can actually prevent flea infestations. Also, it should help you understand how safe this method is.

The only downside is the smell. It is bad, and some people can’t stand it. If you are one of them, you will probably look for another recipe here on the list. Luckily for you, we do know about other recipes that don’t have a bad smell.

Some people use this recipe only on dogs who spend a lot of time outside and rarely enter the house. If you are one of them, you can spray the mixture in areas where your dog spends a lot of time, like a dog house, some part of the backyard, etc. You get all the benefits, but there is no bad scent inside the house.

Water And Lemon Recipe

This recipe is very popular and effective. But you will have to apply it to your dog once per day. If your pet is going outside, you will probably want to apply it twice. On the other hand, it is easy to make, 100% safe, and works great with all dogs.

The first thing you will have to do is boil 1 pint of water. Add lemon, then. 10 slices are sufficient. Now, cover your pot and leave it like that the entire night. Use a spray bottle to apply the solution to the dog. Keep in mind that it is less effective than the first recipe we have here. But it doesn’t have a bad odor. In fact, it can have a great scent that you may like. If you don’t like these two recipes, we have another one just for you.

Flea Spray Recipes for Dogs

Essential Oils and ACV Recipe

This option can be the best for some of you. First of all, you don’t have to apply it every single day. You can apply it every couple of days. Then we can see that it doesn’t have a bad odor. It has a great odor, which can be appealing to some of you.

You will start with an empty spray bottle. Mix 3 drops of lavender, add 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, and fill the rest of the spray bottle with water. You can use peppermint oil as well. It is your choice, and both versions will work well.

This method is appealing due to the fact that the essential oil will mask the smell of apple cider vinegar. So, you will get the same result as in the first case here, but there is no bad scent. It can be the ultimate solution for some of you. We must add that this recipe will decrease the number of ticks. It is not as effective as with fleas, but it can help.

Of course, if you are one of those who don’t want to use essential oils on their dogs, you will have to use another method. All we can add is that the method is safe and works well all the time. Add the fact that you have to use it once every 2-3 days, and you can see the appeal.

Why You May Need a Homemade Flea Spray Solution

You are probably wondering why you might want to make a spray of this kind and use it. After all, there are a lot of commercial products that do the same thing, and all you need to do is buy them.

The issue is with the chemicals or ingredients in those products. Yes, they don’t smell bad, and they are safe, but most of them have certain chemicals that can make your dog sick. If you read the recipes of a product you will see that one or more owners have reported that.

Add the fact that some of the products you can buy have to be used for 7–10 days only, and then you must stop, and you will get a better idea about why these are not ideal solutions. On the other hand, the recipes we have here are 100% safe, and you can use them for years. They even have additional benefits.

The Smart Dog Parent Bundle

There is no need to add that some commercial products don’t work at all. Some will work a bit better, but not as well as the recipes we have here. So, you will have to try a lot of different solutions in order to find the one that works best for you. Now you know why some dog owners will make their own flea repellent solutions.

The Final word

All the recipes from here are safe and they work well. These are the best DIY flea spray recipes for dogs we were able to find and the ones that have been used by millions. As you can see, each one is completely different and has pros and cons. You will want to use one that has the most important benefits for you and your dog but has some downsides you don’t mind. Try all of them, and you will find the best one for your dog.
